When you feel that you’re not living your life the way you’re supposed to or you’ve strayed away from God, or don’t know anything about God, you might think turning to God is nothing special. Well, I’ll have you know, there’s somebody who thinks it’s beyond special!
In Luke 15 Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep. In it, he speaks about how someone who has a hundred sheep, if he loses one, leaves the ninety-nine to go in search of the missing sheep. When he finds it, he calls his friends and neighbors to rejoice with him that he has found it. At verse 7 Jesus says “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent”. Isn’t it amazing to know that there is rejoicing in heaven over one person turning to God?
In the same chapter of Luke Jesus also tells the parable of the lost coin. He speaks of how a woman who has ten silver coins, if she were to lose one, would look carefully until she found it. Having found it she would say to her friends and neighbors “Rejoice with me, I have found my lost coin”. At verse 10 Jesus says “I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents”. Reading that makes me smile because what seemed like it was just about me, was cause for celebration. Reach out to God and there will be celebration.
