Words or theme for the next year/s or season of your life

A few years ago I discovered the tradition or process of having a word or theme for the year. This is done to give a theme of sorts or focus and guidance for the year or season ahead. This is applicable no matter what time of year it is. It could be something you hope to achieve, something you would like to learn or work on, something you need to embrace or anything else. The words or theme could prove to be prophetic regarding your year or season. The words can be anything you choose. For example faith, growth, finances, discipline, connection, letting go, forgiveness, healing, clarity, love, focus, peace, fun, gratitude, action or anything else. Let your reflection of the last year or last few years, guide your words/theme choosing process. I’m now going to share my words and why I chose them, in case you want to do your own.

For me, this time around, I looked at what I want to focus on and achieve in the next 2 years.

I came up with 3 words/themes: Alignment, Holistic wellness and Success.

  1. Alignment

I considered the life I want to live, looked at the goals I’ve set for myself (not just for this year but life goals,) and the person I want to be. I then looked at how I’m currently living my life, my habits and my overall environment. I decided that my current lifestyle could use an upgrade if it’s going to be aligned to the vision I have for my life. I wrote about that in the last post, the need for your habits, routines and environment to align with your vision and goals. As a result I’ve had to rework my morning routine and my day routine to reflect this alignment. As I keep going, if I stumble, I’ll be sure to once again pick up the book Atomic Habits by James Clear to help me.

  1. Holistic Wellness

For the last couple of years I’ve been on a journey towards wellness. To that end, I’ve been working on healing, learning to love myself, having a relationship with God. I believe wellness involves spirit, mind, body and soul. I’ve neglected the body part to a great extent. So for the next 2 years (or more if necessary) I intend to continue working on the others but with the main focus being the body part.

  1. Success

With this one, it’s a bit complicated. Or should I rather say it depends, to some extent, on things beyond my control. I’ve worked on some things in the last few years, whose results I’m still waiting on. I’ve put some stuff out there that I’ve decided it’s about time I saw results or else admit that I’ve failed at what I set out to achieve. I’m hoping the work and effort I’ve put into things in the last few years finally starts yielding the results I’m hoping for. I’ve also chosen it because I aim to succeed in everything I do in the next 2 years; and beyond of course. That hasn’t always been the case in the last few years. I’ve learned a lot of lessons as a result. There are some lessons I would never have learned had the last couple of years been perfect or had they been to my liking and not as filled with challenges as they were. Lessons about letting go, friendships, finding peace in the midst of chaos, among other lessons. A lot of growth has resulted from all that too and I’m grateful for it.

I don’t know what you’re hoping your next year, 2 years or season looks like but it’s always good to reflect on the last year or years and consider what you want to focus on going forward. If you decide on your words/themes, please do come back and share them.
